Promoting professional standards and ethical business practice in the communications industry throughout Southern Africa.

SACIA’s Content Creation Council exists as a result of industry collaboration between several affiliate bodies who share knowledge and resources in order to drive an industry-wide commitment to the adoption of professional standards and ethical business practices in the film and television industry. Key stakeholders within the Content Creation Council include:

  • Sisters Working in Film & Television (SWIFT)

  • South African Society of Cinematographers (SASC)

  • SA Guild of Actors (SAGA)

  • Independent Producers Organisation (IPO)

  • Personal Managers Association (PMA)

  • Animation SA

  • SASFED

The Council has developed several professional designations that are awarded to individuals working in the film and television industry, including:

A key component of the competency assessment includes an understanding of the SWIFT guidelines on gender-based violence in the film and television industry, including harassment, bullying and discrimination.

We are currently working to develop two new professional designations.

The SACIA Certified Talent Professional will be awarded to individuals who can demonstrate their skill, knowledge and experience in talent and personal management in the entertainment industry, and

The SACIA Certified Content Director will be awarded to individuals who can demonstrate their skill, knowledge and experience directing and producing content for screening in film, television or digital media platforms.Individuals applying for a designation are assessed based on a review of their education, work experience and work ethic. Candidates are also required to provide a portfolio of evidence supporting their claim of competence. Members are required to adhere to a code of conduct that guides their actions and are expected to align their professional activities and practices to the legislation, standards and bylaws applicable to the content creation industry. Members are also required to participate in a programme of continuing professional development (CPD) that keeps them up to date with the trends and technologies shaping the future of the film, television and digital media sector.

The Content Creation Council is elected from amongst those SACIA members involved in the film, television and digital media sector and each elected member serves for a 2-year period. Current council members include Jack Devnarain (chair), Uwe Beckmann, Ramadan Suleman and Quinton Fredricks. Kevan Jones serves as Executive Director.
