SACIA’s ProAV Council was established with support from AVIXA (InfoComm International) back in 2009. It was originally designed to encourage training and industry certification within the audio-visual community, delivering training under license from InfoComm International and encouraging members to earn their international CTS designation.

In 2014 the SACIA Board decided to apply to SAQA for recognition as a professional body and in this process, the ProAV Council developed its own dedicated training material based on the competencies included within the AVIXA curriculum.

The Council have developed three designations that are all recognised by SAQA, with designation holders listed on the National Learner’s Records Database.

• The SACIA Certified AV Associate designation is awarded to an individual who can demonstrate a broad understanding of the technologies used in today’s modern AV workplace.

• The SACIA Certified AV Practitioner designation is awarded to an individual who can demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the technologies used in today’s modern AV workplace, and

• The SACIA Certified AV Professional designation is awarded to an individual who can demonstrate a deep understanding of the technologies used in today’s modern AV workplace.

Members are required to adhere to a code of conduct that guides theiractions and are expected to align their professional activities and practices to the legislation, standards and bylaws applicable to the audio-visualindustry. Members are also required to participate in a programme of continuing professional development (CPD) that keeps them up to date with the trends and technologies shaping the future of the audio-visual sector.

The ProAV Council is elected from amongst those SACIA members involved in the audio-visual sector and each elected member serves for a 2-year period. Current council chair is Wynand Langenhoven, while Kevan Jones serves as Executive Director.
